Welcome to SF-ROCKS

Our future deserves a diverse group of leaders and scientists to ensure the preservation and reclamation of our natural systems. The complex problem of attracting the participation of underrepresented students to the Earth system sciences has no simple solution, but research indicates that successful programs for broadening participation typically contain several common elements: student-centered teaching, supportive learning environments, mentoring and peer interaction, relevance to the lives of students, and participation in real, ongoing research projects.

It is the mission of SF-ROCKS to implement these best practices and create innovative science education programs. It is our vision that someday all stakeholders in our Earth systems will have an opportunity to participate in solutions and be well-informed citizens.

We were outside and I learned a lot when we were outside. It is easier to see outdoors than on a chalkboard
